Protein-Packed Snacking
Ever feel low on energy in the middle of the afternoon? A lot of factors could be at play. It could be that you’re just not eating healthy enough, or maybe your lunch was too heavy, and you’re experiencing a lull before dinner becomes an option.
That’s one of my favourite times to enjoy a protein-packed snack! These healthy protein-packed snacks are surprisingly filling and delicious, yet they’re also full of nutrients. For me, planning is essential.
Additionally, all of these protein-packed snacks are high in protein and low in sugar, so they’ll keep you going until supper AND help you stay on track with your New Year resolutions
To get through that slumping feeling, it’s essential to have healthy snacks at the ready that will keep you going until it’s time for a proper meal. Here are three healthy snacks to help get you through a mid-afternoon slump:
1 – Veggies and hummus
Snack foods can often have a bad reputation for being unhealthy or unsatisfying, but vegetables and hummus are certainly neither of those things. This snack has carbs from the veggies plus protein from the hummus, making it an excellent choice for those who need to feel full and satisfied without reaching for unhealthy snack foods.
2 – Hard-boiled eggs
Hard-boiled eggs are one of the healthiest protein-packed snacks at any time of day. They’re a good source of protein and healthy fats, making them satiating and filling. Because they’re so versatile, you can eat them with almost anything – salads or sandwiches, alone as an afternoon snack or as breakfast if your mornings are hectic! Get creative and enjoy hard-boiled eggs in a variety of ways. Try guacamole stuffed eggs. Cut a hard-boiled egg in half, and stuff each side with prepared guacamole. So good!
3 – Low-fat Greek yogurt
Greek yogurt packs a tonne of protein-packed into every serving while low in sugar and carbs. Mix it with some berries and granola for a delicious sweet snack that won’t give you any regrets later on.
Here is a hack for perfect hard-boiled eggs:
Place eggs in a medium pot and add enough cold water to cover them, plus ½ to 1 tsp salt. Place on stove over medium-high heat and bring to a rolling boil. Cover the pot, turn off the heat, and set a timer for 20 minutes.
When the timer goes off, drain the pot and rinse the eggs with cold water until completely cool. Eggs are ready now!
Even if you don’t have a lot of time to prepare for the day ahead, there are healthy snacks that can help keep your energy levels up and make it easier to stick with those New Year resolutions. It’s always better to be ready!
In this article, we discussed some protein-packed snack ideas that will give you a boost when your afternoon slump hits. Some people may need more protein in their diet while others want something filling without sugar – these foods can do both. If all else fails, try eating an apple or two as they’re full of fibre which helps fill us up quickly and is nutritious too! That old saying, an apple a day keeps the doctor away, might have some truth to that one.
